Pawsome University uses science-backed positive reinforcement training and behavior modification methods exclusively. As IAABC Certified Canine Behavior Consultants, we follow the LIMA principal; The least intrusive, minimally aversive strategy out of a set of humane and effective tactics likely to succeed in achieving a training or behavior change objective. There is a significant body of scientific research supporting the use of positive reinforcement dog training over aversive (punishment) training methods.

Several studies have demonstrated that positive reinforcement is superior in modifying dog behavior, particularly in improving obedience and reducing and modifying undesirable behaviors. For example, a study published in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior found that dogs trained with positive reinforcement had better obedience scores and fewer problem behaviors than those trained with negative reinforcement or punishment-based methods.

Other studies have found that positive reinforcement training is associated with fewer negative side effects compared to aversive training methods, such as fear, anxiety, and aggression. A 2017 study published in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior found that dogs trained with aversive methods showed significantly more stress behaviors and vocalizations than those trained with positive reinforcement, and concludes that trainers and handlers should rely on positive reinforcement training techniques and avoid positive punishment and negative reinforcement.

Furthermore, positive reinforcement has been found to be a more enjoyable and effective training approach for both dogs and their owners, which leads to better long-term retention of learned behaviors and stronger human-animal bonds.

Instead, you can participate in training sessions from the comfort of your own home or wherever you have internet access.

Flexibility: Virtual Sessions can also be more flexible than in-person training. We can accommodate a wider range of schedules and time zones, making it easier to fit training sessions into your busy life. Additionally, virtual training can allow for more frequent, shorter sessions (like our follow-up calls) which can be more effective than longer, less frequent sessions.

Access to specialized trainers: Did you know we have trained dogs and worked with pet parents on 3 Continents? Virtual dog training provides access to specialized trainers, like us, that may not be available locally. This is especially important for owners of dogs with specific needs, and severe behavioral concerns.

It's low stress and highly productive. We'll utilize our client portal and Zoom to communicate and hold our live sessions. When you book your session, you'll be asked to complete a form that details your current situation and behavior concerns. We'll start off by going over your responses to the form, focusing on your issues and goals. After some follow up questions, we'll hit the ground running on my assessment. I'll get to know you and your home situation to craft a realistic and sustainable BMP (Behavior Modification Plan). You'll also be given "homework" to work on in the form of cues/commands or training exercises. You'll also receive training videos and written resources that address what your family is struggling with.
